Gingerbread Pear Crisp

‘Tis the Season!  It really is the most wonderful time of year and I am thrilled to be sharing a cozy, comforting holiday dessert!  This Gingerbread Pear Crisp is perfect for this time of year and needs to be on your Christmas baking list today!


Here in Colorado we are enjoying our first week of winter like weather.  No snow but the temperatures finally cooled down.  It has been unbelievably sunny, warm, and dry.  I kept telling my husband it feels like we live in Arizona because this is NOT how weather should be December.  Thankfully, that has changed.

In other news, my house is festive, it smells great, and I have already made a dent in Christmas shopping.  Not bad in my book!

Despite the recently warm weather, the Christmas spirit is here and my obsessive baking addiction is well underway.  For the most part it is cookies that are baked but I was determined to make a dessert that consisted of pears and the flavors of gingerbread.

Originally the idea of this combo was going to be in the form of a cobbler.  After a few trials and tribulations, a thousand pears later, I scratched that idea and put it into crisp form.  And….it is delicious!

I love a good crisp, and this Gingerbread Pear Crisp has a fun and festive twist on the topping.  With added ginger, cinnamon, cloves, and molasses mixed with the sugar, oats, flour it tastes very similar to a gingersnap crumbled over pears!  So good!

This recipe is so easy and fast to make and will make your house smell amazing! Add this to your list of baking.  You won’t regret it!

Gingerbread Pear Crisp
This Gingerbread Pear Crisp is a beautiful holiday dessert. Fresh pears are topped with a crisp oat topping with all the flavors of gingerbread!

Instructions
  1. Preheat oven to 375 F.
  2. In a medium size bowl, combine chopped pears, sugar, and the 1 Tbsp of flour. Gently stir and set aside.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together the oats, flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, ginger, cloves, salt and chopped walnuts.
  4. In a microwave safe bowl, melt the molasses and butter and pour over oat mixture.
  5. In a 9 inch square or round pie dish, evenly arrange pears. Crumble the topping over the pears.
  6. Bake in preheated oven for about 30 minutes until pears are bubbly and topping is brown. Let cool for 20 minutes. Serve warm with ice cream and enjoy.
