Happy December 20th everyone! Can you believe we are less than a week away from Christmas?! My, oh my December has flown. I wanted to get this wonderful recipe to y’all before Christmas in case any of you are in need of an appetizer for your holiday gatherings. This Spiced Winter Chutney with Cranberries, Pomegranate, and Clementines is sooo good!
This chutney is easy to make and has all those wonderful fruits and flavors of Christmas and winter. Spiced with cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, and zest from the clementines, it’s perfect for this time of year.
I used clementines for this because we always have those in our house this time of year, but oranges would do just fine. I also used fresh ready-to-eat pomegranate seeds to make it even simpler!
In a medium saucepan you put your fresh cranberries, clementine, sugar, orange juice, zest, honey, spices, and balsamic vinegar. Bring it to a boil and simmer until those cranberries start to burst. You can give those babies a little help my mashing some of them :). Stir in the pomegranates and walnuts and let your concoction cool to room temperature.
As it cools, those wonderful winter flavors will enhance and the mixture will thicken.
This is such a beautiful appetizer that would be a great addition to any holiday gathering.
I made dinner for my parents the other night and served this as an appetizer with cream cheese and crackers. It also goes very well with Swiss cheese. Gouda or a smoked cheddar might also pair really well. This could also be spread on a baguette or a condiment on sandwiches. You could even serve this with ham or turkey! Don’t you just love when there are so many options?
This Chutney can also be customized in any way! Change up the spices, use more or less sugar, use dried fruit, different nuts, or add a little heat to it! We are lucky enough to have an abundance of roasted Anaheim chilies in our freezer all year long. They go great with this. A diced jalapeno added to it would also be delicious!
Give this recipe a try for Christmas or New Years. Or anytime really!
I would love to know what you think if you make it.
Merry Christmas everyone! I appreciate all your support!
